Fashion Design: WOvens + Knits

Two terms worth of projects, each with their separate design projects. Projects 1-3 include extension sketches done in watercolor (aka: if the one physical garment were to expand into a whole collection, what would that look like). The knitwear course was taught during the first term of online schooling/quarantine. Navigated and adapted to creative challenges while at home.

Project 1: Zero Waste Muslin Garment

Designed a garment inspired by Constantin Brâncuși's sculptures at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA). Fully draped.

Project 2: 50% Knits, 50% Wovens

Designed an asymmetrical 3-piece resort wear set taking inspiration from the architecture at Drexel University. Challenged to use 50% knits and 50% woven textiles. Thrifted pre-existing garments at Buffalo Exchange to deconstruct and reconstruct the final garment. Used both patterning and draping;.

Project 3: Princess Seams

Princess Seamed Dress inspired by The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University and The Philadelphia Museum of Art's "Off the Wall: American Art to Wear. Fabric obtained from fabric headers at Drexel University's fabric closet.

Project 4: Knit Swatches

Mailed knit swatches from our professor that were machine knit on a Shima Seiki Flat Bed Knitting Machine. Sketched the face of the swatch using a mix of hand-drawn/scanned and Photoshopped or the Adobe Sketch app. Described each swatch with its hand and performance qualities along with a diagram of how the swatch is knitted on the machine.

Project 5: Digital Knit Collection

This knitwear collection was inspired by the sudden switch to online schooling and the advancing digital age. Bright colors and pixels were organized in geometric patterns while the silhouettes provided comfort.
